Definition: What Is New Relic?

New Relic is a cloud-based observability platform designed to provide real-time insights into the performance and behavior of digital systems. It offers perspective on applications and infrastructure, allowing users to track various performance metrics. By gathering data from diverse sources, New Relic aids in identifying potential issues and optimizing operational efficiency. Its capabilities extend to metrics, traces, and logs analysis, offering valuable insights into response times, errors, and other performance indicators.

New Relic Key Features

  • Real User Monitoring (RUM): New Relic’s RUM feature provides insights into how users interact with applications in real time. This data helps optimize user experiences and identify areas for improvement.
  • Performance Monitoring: New Relic provides continuous monitoring of application and infrastructure performance.
  • Synthetic Monitoring: With this feature, you can simulate user interactions with applications.
  • Dynamic Transaction Mapping: New Relic’s dynamic transaction mapping visually represents transaction paths within applications. This aids in understanding dependencies and identifying performance bottlenecks.
  • Dashboards and Visualizations: The customizable dashboards and visualizations in New Relic allow users to create personalized views of performance metrics. This enhances visibility and simplifies data analysis.

FAQs

What is the New Relic tool used for?

The New Relic tool is used for monitoring and analyzing the performance of digital systems, encompassing applications and infrastructure. It provides real-time insights into system behavior, aiding in the identification of potential issues.

Is New Relic free to use?

New Relic offers both free and paid tiers of service. The free tier, known as “New Relic One Free,” provides basic monitoring and observability capabilities. It allows users to gain insights into the performance of their applications and infrastructure, although with certain limitations compared to the paid plans.

What are the limits of the New Relic API?

The API limits in New Relic can vary based on the specific plan you are using. New Relic provides different tiers of service, each with its own set of features and limitations, including API usage.

How much does New Relic cost?

New Relic pricing is a little hard to understand at first, but essentially they charge you per seat, and attach a few add-ons after.

They have 3 base pricing options, each with 3 different options for user permissions. For the standard plan, what they call “basic” users are free, but highly limited with the platform. For a “Core” user, they charge $49 per month per seat, and for the “Full-Platform” user, they charge $99 per seat. In addition to these costs, you’ll be charged $0.30 per ingested GB beyond your 100GB limit according to their Original Data Ingest option.

The next pricing option is called the Pro plan. Again, the Basic users are free and highly limited and the Core users are $49 per month per seat. The “Full-Platform” seat for the Pro plan will cost you $418.80 per month per seat. You have the option of the standard data ingest fee ($0.30 per ingested GB) and what they call “Data Plus” ingestion, which will cost you $0.50 per ingested GB beyond the 100GB limit.

Finally, you have the Enterprise option. Again, Basic is free and Core users are $49. For this tier, however, the “Full-platform” seat will cost you $658.50 per seat per month. Additionally, you have the two data ingest options.
