About us

At first simply called Lucene Consulting, Sematext was the first commercial entity initially exclusively focused on providing services around Lucene since 2005 and Solr since 2006.

Sematext was founded by Otis Gospodnetić, a Lucene and Solr expert, co-author of Lucene in Action (1^st and 2^nd edition), and a member of Lucene, Solr, Nutch, and Mahout development teams. Under Otis' leadership, our engineers have become expert consultants and developers in core open-source search technologies, such as Lucene, Solr, ElasticSearch, Nutch, as well as Big Data technologies like HBase, Hadoop, and Flume.

Sematext is both products and services company. The service side of the company provides expert consulting around Search, Analytics, and Big Data to our growing list of clients. Our software products are modular, scalable, and whenever possible, designed to work with any search vendor solution.

Sematext is entirely self-funded. The company has been profitable and cash flow positive since day one without ever taking on debt or external funding. Over time we have established presence in North America, South America, Europe, and Asia, which allows us to easily serve clients in different timezones - Sematext has clients in North & South America, Europe, Asia, and Australia.
