At the end of November, we’ll be migrating the Sematext Logs backend from Elasticsearch to OpenSearch

NTLM authentication support for synthetics monitors

September 11, 2023

In the realm of Windows network security, NTLM authentication stands as a guardian for the integrity and confidentiality of user interactions. Sematext Synthetics introduces support for NTLM authentication in both Browser and HTTP monitors.

HTTP monitors send requests to a single URL, recording performance metrics, timings, and availability. With the newly integrated NTLM authentication support, you can now send requests to endpoints hosted within Windows networks secured by NTLM authentication.

When creating an HTTP monitor, you’ll find the NTLM authentication option in the authentication tab, alongside other methods like Bearer access tokens and basic authentication.

If needed, you can customize your setup further by filling in the optional Domain and Workstation fields in the Advanced Configuration section.

On the other hand, if your goal is to simulate a user journey on a website and measure performance metrics and availability, you should use a Browser Monitor and write user journey scripts. For websites hosted on a Windows network with NTLM authentication, you can provide NTLM credentials within your journey scripts to navigate through the website.

Keep in mind that you can securely store your credentials with Sensitive Data Protection in User Journey Scripts.
