At the end of November, we’ll be migrating the Sematext Logs backend from Elasticsearch to OpenSearch

Avoid false positive alerts with consecutive runs

November 1, 2023

Sematext Synthetics now has the consecutive runs feature for both Browser and HTTP monitors.

This new functionality allows you to have Sematext automatically rerun the monitor immediately after a failure, with the option to retry up to five times before marking the run as failed. With the consecutive runs feature, your monitors’ availability remains unaffected by intermittent network glitches, preventing false positive alerts.

It is important to distinguish this configuration from the ‘Alert after N consecutive failures from a specific location’ setting within the ‘Configure Alerts’ tab, as the latter aims to withhold alerts until the monitor has failed N times but shows each run that failed as a failed run, while the consecutive runs setting counts the monitor run as failed only if all N retry attempts have failed. Both of these features target alert noise reduction, so what they do have in common is that they both result in alert notifications being sent only after N consecutive failed monitor runs.
