Expanded Linux Logs Support

April 9, 2025

Until now, the Linux Logs App in Sematext Cloud only supported Journald logs. With the latest Sematext Agent release, we’ve added support for file-based logs, too!

What’s new:

  • File logs support – ship logs from files, not just Journald
  • Updated reports – now organized into two categories: Journald logs & File logs

New default alert rules – get notified about important events right away

The new, pre-configured Alerts include:

  • Anomaly alerts – triggered when there’s an unexpectedly high number of error or warning logs
  • Service failure alerts – get notified if a critical service stops running
  • System reboots & shutdowns – track unexpected restarts
  • Failed cron jobs – spot scheduled jobs that didn’t run as expected
  • Unusual outbound & inbound network traffic – detect suspicious network activity

This makes it easier to monitor logs from different sources on your Linux machines. Install or update the Sematext Agent to start using these new features!
