Soundrop is a digital music distribution service with the cover song artist in mind. Soundrop offers free distribution to a variety of online digital music platforms and includes features such as automatic revenue splits, integrated cover song licensing and royalty payments, making for a quick and easy distribution experience.
The Soundrop infrastructure is entirely cloud hosted. Web applications, virtual machines, and databases in the cloud are the major components that Soundrop relies on. The ability to monitor and review the continuous activity on these components is critical. Through Sematext, we can send and view logs from every part of the system, whether they are web application requests and payloads, backend microservice processing, or critical database transactions; we are able to have full visibility on our entire operation.
What were your team’s devops challenges and pain points prior to using Sematext?
Our monitoring and logging spanned across many providers and services. To fully troubleshoot and dig through any transaction was cumbersome and a huge time sink. Jumping between multiple solutions was time consuming and it would take us a long time to really pinpoint specific transactions.
What were your requirements and considerations for monitoring and / or logging solutions?
We are a small and agile team and need to move fast. As such, for monitoring and logging improvements we require a fast and robust service to help us accurately drill down on transactions quickly and easily.
Why did you choose Sematext?
The Soundrop infrastructure and code base was derived from an implementation that already put Sematext to use, as such, we did not have any input on the initial usage of Sematext.
However, once we’ve had the chance to explore Sematext, we found it to be a great service that really suited our needs. So the decision of continuing to use Sematext was completely ours as Sematext plays a critical role throughout the Soundrop platform.
What problems does Sematext solve for you?
Sematext Logs provides the detailed insights for Soundrop to monitor our web transactions and backend processes. With Kibana built-in we are able to intuitively navigate through vast amounts of logs to easily troubleshoot and find issues quickly.
What was the outcome and which product feature(s) do you find most helpful?
Sematext Logs with its included alerting feature has allowed us to monitor our processes 24/7 in real-time and also jump on issues as they arise.
